KAI XR & CRISPR

Kai XR, founded by educator Kai Frazier, bridges the digital divide by giving students hands-on access to emerging technologies. Its platform offers immersive “Adventures,” like virtual field trips and 3D maker spaces for grades 3–8, fostering innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity. For CRISPR documentation and media use, Kai XR needed press and behind-the-scenes photos showing real interaction with the technology using VR headsets, tablets, and maker tools. The goal was to capture authentic engagement, participation, and the excitement of discovery by showing how Kai XR connects advanced technology to human curiosity and access.

Kai XR partnered with the Innovative Genomics Institute at UC Berkeley to create an immersive virtual field trip that brought CRISPR science directly into classrooms. My photographic approach centered on authenticity and storytelling—documenting the collaboration between Kai XR founder Kai Frazier and Nobel Prize–winning scientist Jennifer Doudna in real time. I captured behind-the-scenes moments of the production team working inside the lab, highlighting both the precision of scientific research and the warmth of human connection driving it. The resulting imagery elevated Kai XR’s educational storytelling on their website, illustrating the production team created their experience at this world-class genomics facility, showcasing CRISPR’s real-world impact through an accessible, visually compelling lens.
